The Future of
Modern Guitar
Second Sun
Recordings is a self-aware underground record label,
independently owned
and operated by one David Tagg (Virgo, 1982) and one Brian Grainger
(Taurus, 1983). The two met in 2006 through Tagg's Expanding
Electronic Diversity label, and decided to start a band, VCV. Getting
off to a quick start on their debut recording 3753 Cruithne and
two other "singles", the duo decided it was necessary for the growth and
expansion of the band to start a label for it's output. So in August of
2006, Second Sun Recordings was born, and the world of guitar-based
music would never again be the same. The label's emphasis is to release
works done by Tagg and Grainger, either together or apart, in any form,
so long as guitars remain the main instrument on the release. Drones,
ambience, noise, psychedelia, blues, doom, acoustic, shoegazer...no
genre is safe. SSR then presses these recordings onto issues of 50
CDs each, with quality artwork at a minimal price. The label also
regularly makes a number of field recordings available for free
download, and
there are hopes to one day sponsor and document a proper VCV live show.
