ABOUT:
Second Sun Recordings is a self-aware boutique record label,
independently owned and operated by one David Tagg (Virgo, 1982) and
one Brian Grainger (Taurus, 1983). The two met in 2006 through
Tagg's now-defunct Expanding Electronic Diversity imprint, and
decided to start a band, VCV. Getting off to a quick start with
their debut recording 3753 Cruithne and two other "singles", the duo
decided it was necessary for the growth and expansion of the band to
start a label for its output.
By August of 2006, SSR emerged with a grandiose yet clear vision for
Tagg and Grainger's own unique brand of art and music. With an
emphasis on releasing works by either Tagg or Grainger, together or
apart, the label has branched into several separate projects and
sounds, such as the 21Mg Series, wherein a monthly EP is produced
specifically for the purpose of ambient sleeping music, or the
freely downloadable online catalog, which features many unique field
recordings, found sounds and other audio experimentation.
Since the very start, SSR has maintained a strict work ethic and
design sense that complies with what Tagg and Grainger have coined "Obscurism"
- a series of experimental methods utilized for producing music,
packaging, photography and other mediums of expression. Within this
context, SSR continues to grow and explore new and exciting
frontiers in the worlds of art, sound and printed matter, all the
while searching for their own place in the cosmic fugue.
